Settlement Terms and Payment

Apple agreed to pay $250 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading iPhone buyers about artificial intelligence capabilities. Each eligible class member will receive between $25 and $95 per device, with the exact amount depending on the total number of approved claimants. The settlement covers approximately 36 million eligible devices.

Who Is Eligible

Eligible buyers are those who purchased an iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max in the United States between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. These are the devices that were marketed with the promised Apple Intelligence features and enhanced Siri capabilities.

The False Advertising Claims

Plaintiffs accused Apple of promoting AI capabilities that did not exist at the time of marketing, do not currently exist, and will not exist for two or more years if ever. Apple had advertised that enhanced Siri would transform from a limited voice interface into a full-fledged personal AI assistant, but these features were never delivered as promised. The Better Business Bureau's National Advertising Division had also concluded that Apple falsely suggested the new AI-powered Siri was available immediately.

Apple's Response

Apple did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement agreement filed in California federal court. The company stated that the lawsuit focused on 'the availability of two additional features' in a broader lineup of Apple Intelligence features, and that it resolved the matter to focus on delivering innovative products and services to users.

Lawsuit Background

The class-action lawsuit was filed in California federal court and accused Apple of false advertising related to its Apple Intelligence rollout and Siri enhancements. Lawyers argued that Apple undertook the misleading advertising campaign to catch up in the Big Tech race for AI technology. The settlement must still be approved by Judge Noël Wise of the federal district court for the northern district of California at a hearing scheduled for June 17, 2026.
