Voi Tunuufi, a former defensive lineman for the Washington Huskies, passed away in a car accident on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The news was revealed to the Washington Huskies community on Monday, May 4, 2026. He was 23 years old.
College Career
Tunuufi was a three-star recruit from East High School in Utah who played for three different head coaches during his University of Washington career. He began in 2021 under Jimmy Lake, spent two years with Kalen DeBoer, and finished his career under Jedd Fisch in 2024. He played in 52 games total, including appearances in the Sugar Bowl and the national championship game during Washington's 2023 season.
On-Field Performance
Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 282 pounds, Tunuufi was known for his unique build that allowed him to play multiple positions including edge rusher and defensive tackle. Over his career, he compiled 86 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 14 starts. He even took snaps at fullback during Washington's upset victory over then-No. 10 Michigan in Seattle in 2024.
