Complete Weight Class List

Professional UFC competition includes 11 weight classes for both men and women (with some variations). For men, the classes are: Flyweight (125 lbs), Bantamweight (135 lbs), Featherweight (145 lbs), Lightweight (155 lbs), Welterweight (170 lbs), Middleweight (185 lbs), Light Heavyweight (205 lbs), and Heavyweight (265 lbs). Women compete in Strawweight (115 lbs), Flyweight (125 lbs), Bantamweight (135 lbs), and Featherweight (145 lbs).

Weight Cut Rules

Fighters must weigh in before their fight to confirm they meet their weight class limit. The official weigh-ins typically happen one day before the fight. If a fighter is over the weight limit, they cannot compete in that weight class and may face penalties or forfeit the match.

Why Weight Classes Exist

Weight classes create fair competition by matching fighters of similar size and strength. Without weight classes, larger and heavier fighters would have an unfair advantage over smaller opponents. This system ensures that skill and technique are the main factors determining who wins a fight.

Heavyweight Exception

The heavyweight division has an upper weight limit of 265 pounds but no lower limit beyond what qualifies as heavyweight. This means heavyweight fighters can compete across a wider range of body weights compared to other divisions.
