Affected vehicles and defect

Ford is recalling approximately 140,201 Ranger pickup trucks spanning the 2024 through 2026 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified a wiring issue where sun visor and headliner wiring harnesses may be improperly positioned or wrapped with excessive tape thickness. These conditions can cause wires to degrade and potentially create an electrical short in the A-pillar area, which could trigger a fire and increase the risk of injury or crashes.

Incidents and reports

Ford reported that the company has not received any crash or injury reports related to this recall. However, the recall was prompted by three warranty claims, two field reports, and one customer service report in the U.S. that may be connected to the wiring issue.

Repair process and customer notification

Ford dealers will examine the wiring harnesses and update the vehicle's body control module software at no cost to owners. For vehicles showing signs of damage or a matching diagnostic trouble code history, the sun visor wiring harness will be replaced for free. Owner notification letters began mailing April 27 through May 1, with the final repair remedy notices expected between August 3 and August 7. The recall is being rolled out in phases, starting with certain 2025 model-year trucks in late May, followed by 2026 models in late June and 2024 models in late July.
