Book Overview
Peculiar Stars is a slow-burn contemporary romance novel announced exclusively on TODAY on April 28, 2026. The book follows Callista Moran, who crashes on a deserted island during a cyclone and must figure out who she is and who she really loves when everything is stripped away. She spends 543 days stranded on the island with her fiancé's cousin, Dominic, an ex-army medic.
Plot and Themes
Callista has spent her life putting others' plans before her own. When her routine sailing trip goes tragically wrong, she discovers a strength she never knew she had and begins questioning the life she always thought she wanted. With Dominic, she finds true peace and a version of herself she doesn't need to explain. They initially resist their connection, but as months pass and hope of rescue fades, something real develops based on who they truly are. When finally found, the world hasn't changed, but they have.
Release and Publishing Details
Peculiar Stars will be published on November 17, 2026 by Amazon Publishing's romance imprint Montlake. The book's cover was revealed during the announcement on TODAY.
Yarros' Publishing Pattern
This romance novel fits into Rebecca Yarros' alternating publishing pattern between her uber-popular Fourth Wing fantasy series and standalone contemporary romance novels. She last published a contemporary romance in 2024 titled Variation, about a dancer who reconnects with a past love. The announcement of Peculiar Stars comes more than a year after the January 2025 publication of Onyx Storm, the third book in her Empyrean series.
Author's Publishing Pace
Yarros has slowed her publishing pace due to her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and family commitments. In an interview, she explained that she was working 12 to 15 hours daily and wanted healthier work boundaries to be more present with her family. She now aims to work eight hours a day while continuing her writing career.
