What is Serie A
Serie A is the highest level of professional soccer competition in Italy. It has been running since 1929 and is one of the most popular and competitive soccer leagues in Europe. Top Italian clubs like AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus compete in this league.
League Structure
The league consists of 20 teams. Each team plays against every other team twice during the season, once at home and once away. This means each team plays 38 matches total. Teams earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
Season Schedule
The Serie A season runs from August through May each year. Teams play matches throughout this period, with some breaks for international games and holidays. At the end of the season, the team with the most points wins the championship.
Promotion and Relegation
The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to Serie B, the second-level league. The top three teams from Serie B are promoted to Serie A the following season. This system keeps the competition fair and gives lower-division teams a chance to reach the top league.
International Recognition
Serie A is recognized as one of the top five soccer leagues in the world, alongside the Premier League in England, La Liga in Spain, the Bundesliga in Germany, and Ligue 1 in France. The league attracts skilled players from around the globe.
