Founding and Early Years
Sporting CP was established in 1906 as a result of merging two earlier clubs. The club was created in Lisbon and quickly became one of Portugal's major sports organizations. From its early years, Sporting CP focused primarily on football but also developed programs in other sports including basketball, roller hockey, and athletics.
Growth and Development
Throughout the early 20th century, Sporting CP grew to become one of the Big Three clubs in Portuguese football, alongside Benfica and Porto.
