Main Story
The film follows Gerd Wiesler, a loyal officer for the Stasi, the secret police of East Germany. He is assigned to spy on Georg Dreyman, a famous playwright, and monitor his apartment for signs of disloyalty to the government. Wiesler sets up hidden microphones and cameras to watch and listen to everything Dreyman and his girlfriend Christa do.
