What is the Atlas V

The Atlas V is a powerful rocket built by United Launch Alliance, a company owned by Boeing and Lockheed Martin. It is one of the most reliable rockets used today and has successfully launched over 90 missions. The rocket comes in different versions depending on the mission requirements, allowing it to carry different amounts of weight and reach different destinations in space.

How the Engines Work

The Atlas V uses a main engine called the RS-68 that burns liquid hydrogen as fuel and liquid oxygen as oxidizer. When these two liquids mix and ignite, they create a powerful explosion that produces hot gases. These gases rush out the bottom of the rocket at extreme speeds, creating thrust that pushes the rocket upward. The rocket also has additional solid rocket boosters on the sides for extra power during takeoff on certain missions.

The Launch Process
