Mode Design and Gameplay
Skirmish: Ascension is designed as a fast, skill-forward competitive experience where gunplay remains primary while selected abilities create tactical decisions and replayable duels. Players choose from 14 agents, each equipped with a single ability. The mode features staged weapons with no economy system. Rounds 1-4 use pistols (Bandit, Sheriff), rounds 5-8 use low-tier rifles (Guardian, Bulldog), and rounds 9 onward feature Vandal and Phantom. The first team to win 10 rounds wins the match.
Competitive Ranking System
The mode includes a competitive leaderboard called FTW ranked ladder segmented by server, region, and platform. Separate leaderboards track 1v1 and 2v2 performance independently. Rank tiers progress from Iron (700 points) through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, and Immortal, with Radiant reserved for the top 100 players.
Agent Roster
The 14 available agents are: Jett (Tailwind), Waylay (Refract), Chamber (Rendezvous), Cypher (Cyber Cage), Omen (Shrouded Step), Phoenix (Curve Ball), Yoru (Clone), Iso (Contingency), Sage (Barrier Orb), Raze (Blast Pack), Vyse (Arc Rose), KAY/O (Flash/Drive), Breach (Flashpoint), and Veto (Crosscut).
Rewards and Titles
Players can earn rewards including player cards for completing 3 or 15 matches respectively (Combat Ready and Trade Me cards). Titles are awarded based on highest rank achieved on either ladder: Skirmish Competitor (Gold to Platinum), Skirmish Expert (Diamond to Immortal), and Skirmish Legend (Radiant).
Patch 12.08 Context
Skirmish: Ascension arrived as part of patch 12.08, which also marked the beginning of Act 3. The patch included map pool updates with Ascent entering and Bind leaving competitive queues, the return of Premier mode, and various bug fixes across agents. The Knockout limited-time mode departed with this update.
