Storms are expected to grow into something complex late Sunday evening, with isolated severe storms likely to converge into a line as they enter eastern Kansas after 7 p.m., with the highest severe threat during overnight hours.

Damaging winds and large hail are the primary concerns, with wind gusts potentially reaching 70 mph. The National Weather Service indicated tornado warnings have been issued for various counties throughout Sunday afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall capable of causing flash flooding is also possible, particularly in areas north, northeast, and northwest of the Kansas City metro.

Rainfall and Flooding Risk

The Kansas City metro is expected to receive between 0.5 and 0.75 inches of rain overnight, while areas north, northeast, and northwest of the metro could see 2 to 4 inches of accumulation due to successive rounds of storms. A flood watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday for most counties along and north of Interstate 70.
