Two Rounds of Severe Storms Expected
Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky face two separate rounds of severe weather. The first arrives Monday evening through Tuesday morning, with the second expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. A brief break in activity is anticipated through Tuesday afternoon between the two rounds.
Timing and Geographic Focus
The first wave of strong-to-severe thunderstorms is expected between 10 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, with the strongest impact in the Nashville area occurring between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday. The greatest severe weather threat is concentrated along and west of I-65, where conditions are rated at 2/5 on the threat scale, diminishing to 1/5 in the Plateau region.
Primary Weather Hazards
Damaging winds and tornadoes are the main threats from both storm systems, with hail and heavy rain also possible. A PDS tornado watch has been issued for western counties, indicating a particularly dangerous situation. All severe hazards are possible across the affected areas.
Affected Counties
Tornado watches cover multiple Tennessee counties including Davidson, Williamson, Maury, Dickson, Robertson, Montgomery, and others, as well as Kentucky counties including Calloway, Trigg, Christian, and Todd. The watches initially extended until 11 p.m. Monday and were later extended until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Preparation and Alerts
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including NOAA weather radios and mobile apps with notifications enabled. It is recommended to review severe weather safety plans and identify safe shelter locations before storms arrive. Phone charging before bed is advised given the overnight timing of both storm systems.
