Current Tornado Watch and Warnings

Nashville and Middle Tennessee are under tornado watch as of April 28, 2026. The National Weather Service has issued tornado watches for multiple Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky counties. A tornado warning was briefly issued for Oldham County, Henry County, and Shelby County, though no tornadoes materialized from that warning.

Severe Thunderstorm Activity

Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued across the region. Thunderstorms have produced gusty winds between 50 to 70 mph, with some areas experiencing wind gusts approaching 60-70 mph along storm leading edges. Heavy rain has led to ponding on roadways and flash flooding across portions of the area.

Additional Hazards

Large hail has been reported across portions of the region, with hail as large as 2 inches in diameter possible. The combination of heavy rain and gusty winds has caused numerous trees and power lines to come down. Water rescues have been reported across the region due to flash flooding, particularly in downtown areas.

Rainfall and Flooding

Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches have been recorded across Jefferson County, with some areas receiving even higher amounts. Southern Indiana communities have seen 4 to 6 inches of rain. Flash flood warnings continue in effect due to the heavy precipitation and resulting water rescues.

Timeline for Severe Weather

Severe thunderstorm watches continue into early morning hours. Another round of storms is expected late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, though forecasters say this system is not expected to be nearly as strong as the current outbreak. Drier conditions are expected to develop mid-week.
