Announcement Details
The 2026 Tony Award nominees were revealed on May 5, 2026. The nomination announcement began at 8:30 a.m. ET on CBS Mornings, with the full list of nominees available immediately at TonyAwards.com. Additional nominees were unveiled by Uzo Aduba and Darren Criss on the Tony Awards' official YouTube page starting at 9 a.m. ET.
Season Overview
This year's Tony Awards season featured only 30 Broadway productions eligible for nomination, a significant decrease from the 42 productions eligible last year. Despite the narrower field, competition remained fierce, particularly in the performing categories. Several productions that began performances during the eligibility window were not in the running, including All Out: Comedy About Ambition, Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride, Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets, and the Broadway return of Beetlejuice.
Notable Productions and Performances
Death of a Salesman and Little Bear Ridge Road, both produced by Scott Rudin, were in serious contention for Tony nominations. Laurie Metcalf was expected to be nominated for her performances in both productions, potentially earning two nominations in a single season. Other performances generating critical acclaim included those by Rose Byrne in Fallen Angels, Ayo Edebiri in her Broadway debut, Jon Bernthal from Dog Day Afternoon, and June Squibb in Marjorie Prime, who at 96 years old could potentially become the eldest Tony nominee on record.
