The Bullpen Collapse

With the Angels holding a 5-1 lead entering the seventh inning, starter Jack Kochanowicz was pulled after allowing two batters to reach base. The bullpen then imploded spectacularly. An error by shortstop Zach Neto set the stage for disaster. Right-hander Nick Sandlin entered and allowed a single, hit a batter, and gave up a two-run double. Left-hander Drew Pomeranz followed and surrendered back-to-back home runs to Munetaka Murakami and Miguel Vargas, with Murakami's blast giving the White Sox a 7-5 lead. The Angels managed to score two more runs in the ninth but fell short, losing 8-7.

Consecutive Days of Bullpen Failure

This loss marked the second consecutive day the Angels' bullpen surrendered a significant lead. The night before, Drew Pomeranz gave up a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning to Jac Caglianone. Monday's meltdown proved even worse, as the bullpen allowed five runs in just two innings of work. The Angels' bullpen ERA is now 5.70, the third-worst in baseball heading into the game.

Strong Start Wasted

Jack Kochanowicz delivered another solid performance, throwing six innings and allowing only two earned runs on five hits while striking out five batters and walking one. He lowered his season ERA to 3.09. Despite his strong outing, the offensive support and subsequent bullpen meltdown meant Kochanowicz did not factor in the decision. The Angels' offense struck early, scoring five runs through the first four innings, with Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, and Travis d'Arnaud driving in runs.

Downward Spiral

The loss extended the Angels' struggles, as they have now lost eight of their last nine games and currently sit at 12-18 on the season. The White Sox, despite being 12-17 themselves, capitalized on the Angels' defensive and pitching mistakes to secure the victory.
