Why the Move Happened

CBS's Tracker relocated from Vancouver to Los Angeles to take advantage of California's expanded $750 million tax incentive program. The show secured $48 million in tax credits, the largest amount the California Film Commission has ever awarded to a television series. This incentive was designed to bring productions back to California as they have increasingly moved to other countries like Ireland, the U.K., and Canada.

Tax Credit Structure

The $48 million tax credit is based on $129 million in qualified production spending. The show is eligible for a 35% base tax credit on qualified expenditures. Additionally, because Tracker is primarily set in rural wilderness settings, it qualifies for an extra 5% bonus tax credit on qualified spending incurred outside the designated 30-mile Greater Los Angeles area.

Economic Impact

The relocation brings an estimated 250 crew members and 275 actors to California for 176 filming days. Total production spending exceeds $129 million. This move reflects California's strategy to reverse the trend of productions moving overseas and to support the local film economy.

Production Details

Season 4 filming was slated to begin in summer 2026, with 20th Television locking down production facilities in and around Los Angeles. Showrunner Elwood Reid highlighted that location is a huge part of Tracker's storytelling, noting that California's diverse landscapes provide fresh opportunities for the show's backdrop.
