The Return of Remains

Christine Dawood received the remains of her husband Shahzada Dawood (age 48) and son Suleman Dawood (age 19) nine months after the Titan submersible imploded on June 18, 2023. The remains arrived in two small boxes that resembled shoeboxes. Dawood described the contents as 'the slush that was left,' noting that there wasn't much the authorities could recover from the catastrophic implosion.

Limited Recovery and DNA Separation

The U.S. Coast Guard, which tested the remains, informed Dawood that they had recovered a large pile of mixed DNA from the submersible wreckage that they couldn't separate or attribute to specific individuals. The Coast Guard offered to give her this unidentified biological material as well, but Dawood declined the offer. She chose to accept only what could be definitively identified as belonging to her husband and son.

Dawood's Perspective on the Implosion

Dawood expressed some solace in learning that the submersible experienced a 'catastrophic implosion.' She stated that her first thought upon hearing this was 'thank God,' because she knew that Shahzada and Suleman wouldn't have been aware of what was happening. She said: 'One moment they were there and the next they weren't. Knowing they didn't suffer has been so important.'
